15 Billion USD! China National Building Material Group Expands into New Energy Anode Materials and Emerging Sectors

2025-03-18

The 2025 Government Work Report emphasizes nurturing emerging and future industries. "协同创新 in science and industry drives traditional sector upgrades and addresses challenges in strategic emerging fields," stated Zhou Yuxian, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of China National Building Material Group (CNBM). By 2024, CNBM’s strategic emerging industries had achieved three consecutive years of over ¥100 billion in revenue and ¥10 billion in profit.

CNBM has allocated a ¥15 billion new materials fund to advance semiconductor silicon wafers, photovoltaics, hydrogen storage cylinders, flexible glass, and power-generating glass. Investment in strategic sectors rose from 34.8% in 2021 to 61.9% in 2024, delivering breakthroughs like low-heat cement for the Baihetan Hydropower Station, aircraft composite materials, and a zero-carbon fiberglass smart factory.

In December 2024, CNBM Graphite New Materials merged with Inner Mongolia Hengke and Hebei Hengke, strengthening its position in anode materials and coatings. "This collaboration combines CNBM’s natural graphite resources with Hengke’s lithium-ion battery expertise for mutual growth," said Ye Yingchun, GM of CNBM Graphite.

Moving forward, CNBM aims to build tiered industrial clusters: 10 billion USD sectors (fiberglass, wind blades), 5-10 billion USD segments (carbon fiber, battery separators), and 1-5 billion USD frontiers (silicon nitride ceramics, hydrogen cylinders). "We focus on innovation, industrial integration, and global partnerships to drive high-quality growth," added Zhou.
